Assistance for Veterans Affected by Recent Hurricanes

The following message is from WVSSAR President Bill Lester about helping Veterans who have been impacted by the recent hurricanes..

Compatriots:

Being a member of the VA Committee, I was present when disaster relief efforts were discussed at our meeting in Louisville 2 weeks ago. It was generally agreed that the Society should get involved helping the Veterans that were affected by the recent storms in Texas, Florida and the Caribbean. Upcoming June 2017 Events

Compatriots & Friends,
There are a number of upcoming events that I would like to share with you and encourage your attendance.

June 10, Saturday @ 11am – Flag Certificate will be presented at Flat Top, WV.

June 14, Wednesday @ 6:14pm – Flag retirement ceremony at Fort Randolph. Gather up your tattered, torn and worn US flags, bring them to Fort Randolph where they will be retired properly with honor.

June 15, Thursday @ 6pm – Doug Wood will be presenting “Cultural Crossroads: Establishing the 17th Century Fur Trade in the Trans-Allegheny Region” in the Archives and History Library in the Culture Center in Charleston. The program will begin at 6:00pm and it free and open to the public.

June 17, Saturday @ 1pm – Memorial service for Larry Freshwater who was a 24 year member of Daniel Boone Chapter, chapter President, a State officer and board member. The memorial service will be held at Larry’s graveside in Eventide Cemetery in Spencer. Directions: If coming from Ripley, turn left on Route 14 at Go Mart in Spencer, proceed about a mile to Eventide Cemetery on the left. If driving from Spencer turn right on to Route 14 at the Go Mart, proceed about a mile, turn left into Eventide Cemetery.

June 18, Sunday @ 11am – Historical church service followed by Patriot grave marking (12pm) at Old Greenbrier Baptist Church, Alderson, WV

June 20, Tuesday @ 10am – WVSAR Color Guard Muster at the Capitol for West Virginia Day Celebration – tentative…

June 14th, is National Flag Day, a day when Americans celebrate the meaning of their nation’s flag, honor the traditions associated with its care, and educate those around them to its significance. The Flag of the United States is to be honored and carries with it both history and traditions.
