Zane Memorial Service

On Saturday, September 7, at 10:00 the Wheeling Chapter, DAR and the Fort Henry Chapter will co-host a memorial service and wreath laying at the graves of Ebenezer Zane who claimed his 400 acres and founded Wheeling in 1769, and his sister, Elizabeth Zane, heroine of the 1782 siege of Fort Henry at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Martins Ferry, Ohio. The ceremony has been designated a Central District Color Guard event and is part of the Wheeling 250th anniversary programming. Color guard will muster at 9:30.

The cemetery is located at the northern most end of Fourth Street in Martins Ferry, Ohio.

From Interstate 70 westbound, cross the Fort Henry Bridge and take Exit 0 for Wheeling Island. Turn right onto Ohio Route 7 northbound. Exit at Hanover Street (left exit) and at Fourth Street, turn right (Grace Presbyterian Church is your landmark) and proceed northbound on Fourth Street. At the end of the street East Ohio Regional Hospital will be on your right. The road dead ends at the cemetery where there is a large parking area. 

From Interstate 70 eastbound, take Exit 225 for Bridgeport/US 250 West/Ohio 7 North. Turn left onto Marion Street and then turn right onto Main Street, then left onto US 250 West and merge into Ohio Route 7 North. Exit at Hanover Street (left exit) and at Fourth Street, turn right (Grace Presbyterian Church is your landmark) and proceed northbound on Fourth Street. At the end of the street East Ohio Regional Hospital will be on your right. The road dead ends at the cemetery where there is a large parking area.
